Question 1
Long FormDescribe the three distinct phases of the author’s relationship with his grandmother before he left to study abroad.
The relationship between the author and his grandmother underwent significant changes as they moved from the village to the city. The first phase was in the village, where they were inseparable friends. She was his primary caregiver, waking him up and accompanying him to school. This phase was built on total dependency and shared time. The second phase began when they moved to the city. Although they shared a room, the physical distance grew because the author attended an English school. The grandmother could no longer help with his studies or walk him to school, leading to a gap in their communication. The third phase occurred when the author went to university and was given a separate room. This snapped the 'common link of friendship' entirely. The grandmother accepted this change with dignity, turning to her spinning wheel and prayers, showing her emotional strength and resilience.
