Key concept recap
Introduction
Angiosperms, despite their enormous diversity in external structure, share common features: all possess roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits. The underground portion of the plant constitutes the root system, while the portion above ground forms the shoot system. Understanding morphology requires standard technical terms and knowledge of adaptive variations in plant parts.
Plants adapt their organs for various functions such as storage, climbing, protection, and survival in diverse habitats. To classify and identify plants successfully, one must understand both typical and modified forms of each organ. This chapter systematically describes each vegetative and reproductive organ of flowering plants using precise scientific terminology.
