Quick RecallWhat is plasma and what percentage of blood does it constitute?
- Plasma is a straw-coloured, viscous fluid matrix of blood constituting nearly 55 per cent of the blood volume.
- It is composed of 90–92 per cent water and 6–8 per cent proteins (fibrinogen, globulins, albumins) along with minerals, glucose, amino acids, and lipids.
- Clotting factors are also present in plasma in inactive form; plasma without clotting factors is called serum.
