Question 1
Long FormDescribe the inner conflict faced by Dr. Sadao and his wife when they found the wounded American.
Dr. Sadao and his wife Hana face a severe moral dilemma when they discover the wounded American soldier on the beach. As patriotic Japanese citizens during World War II, they know their national duty is to hand the enemy over to the military or simply throw him back into the sea to die. Harbouring a prisoner of war is a treacherous act that could lead to their arrest and execution. However, Dr. Sadao is deeply bound by his oath as a medical professional to save lives, regardless of a person's nationality or identity. Leaving a wounded man to bleed to death goes against his core human values and medical training. This creates a fierce internal clash between national loyalty and human compassion. Ultimately, their innate humanity and medical ethics overpower their wartime prejudices, compelling them to save the enemy soldier.
