Introduction to Health
Health is not merely the absence of disease or physical fitness, but a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. Early Greek and Ayurvedic traditions believed health was governed by a balance of 'humors', a concept later disproved by experimental science. The discovery of blood circulation by William Harvey and demonstration of normal body temperature even in 'blackbile' individuals challenged these old notions.
Health is influenced by three main factors: genetic disorders (inherited or congenital deficiencies), infections by pathogens, and lifestyle choices including diet, rest, exercise and personal habits. Balanced diet, personal hygiene, regular exercise and yoga are fundamental to maintaining good health. Vaccination, proper waste disposal and vector control are also critical public health measures.
