Introduction to Water on Earth
Water is the most important part of our environment because it supports all forms of life on Earth. While most of our planet is covered in water, the majority of it is found in oceans and is salty, making it unfit for drinking. Freshwater is actually very scarce compared to the total amount of water available.
To understand this better, the chapter uses a simple comparison: if all the water on Earth filled a large glass, the freshwater available to us would only be a tiny teaspoon. This illustrates why we must value every drop. All living things, including people, animals, birds, and plants, depend on this limited freshwater to survive every day.
