Question 1
Long FormHow does the author use the metaphor of the 'wheel of fortune' to describe Satyajit's life journey?
The 'wheel of fortune' is a central motif that illustrates the cyclical nature of Satyajit’s life. He started from a humble village background where struggle was his 'life-breath.' Through determination and a lucky break involving a bank forgery case, the wheel turned upward, transforming him from a mere clerk into a powerful Managing Director. This rise gave him immense pride and material wealth. However, the author emphasizes that success and failure are two sides of the same coin. The wheel turns again, and his bank collapses, stripping him of everything overnight. By returning to Shantipur, Satyajit literally and metaphorically returns to his starting point. The author suggests that while human effort plays a role, external forces can unexpectedly reverse one's destiny, leaving one to face the same struggles they once thought they had escaped forever.
